Jean-Pierre CHEVASSUS-AGNES
Famous French Artist
JEAN-PIERRE CHEVASSUS-AGNES, an important French academic artist, was born in Jura, France in 1948. He has followed his mother to learn painting who was a famous porcelain painter when he was young, then studied in Valence Normal College, National UFRABS College and People’s Institute of Fine Arts in Paris. After graduation, he has worked in education for long and has been the professor of many French advanced art academies. Since he retired in 2004, Jean-Pierre has held many solo exhibitions around all over the world. With his teacher Picasso’s guide “you should keep on all the way to the East from the West.” Pierre has kept coming to China for eleven times for pursuing the essence of art.
Through his works, You may find the artist’s successful experience of combining the traditional Chinese painting, especially the ink painting techniques of expression and the Post-Impressionism. The late professor of China Academy of Art, famous oil painter Wang Liuqiu had commented him as “inheriting and developing the excellent traditions of French art, especially appreciating of Paul Cezanne make his art wonderful and colorful, and make people feel like a symphony.”
How to paint the dreamy landscape of Southern China by a foreign artist? Through painting the West Lake and Nan Xun waterway town, Jean Pierre fully expresses his special eastern tastes with his western humor and romanticism. He shows the sincere love to China and to the art through his paintings with oriental touch. In recent years, Pierre has come to Hangzhou to paint for many times. The professor and the artist, Wu Shanming thinks Jean Pierre’s works first bring people freshness, and now make us feel like an old friend; he begins to appreciate the scenery slowly while not just to express his feeling directly, which describes exactly Jean Pierre’s Chinese dream.
